Design

Lenovo has made no major difference in the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 8 (2020) model. The 8th Gen X1 Carbon looks identical to the 7th Gen version at first glance, but a couple of interesting upgrades as been made to spice things up a bit on the inside.

On the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon (2020) lid is a stylishly inscribed Trademark at the top right corner and a new X1 logo on the bottom-right.

Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 8 (2020) model also maintain its 2.4 pounds and 0.6 inches thickness, hence, the durable yet lightweight body built.

The Lid is made of a carbon-fiber weave with metal alloys, thus enabling the slim, sleek and ultraportable design.

The X1 Carbon features a 180-degree hinge allows you to lay the device flat on a table and share the screen with others.

Similarly, you still have the same trimmed bezel on the predecessor present on the 2020 Gen 8 model. The bezel accommodates the 750p HD Web Camera and light ThinkShutter privacy cover.

Lenovo, however, made some changes on the Lenovo 8th Gen Thinkpad X1 Carbon (2020) keyboard. You can now make a conference (call / hangup / messaging) with a press on the F9, F10 and F11 keys.

Finally, the 8th generation Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon (2020) laptop still has the dedicated smooth touchpad, native rubber TrackPoint positioned between the G, H, and B keys and a A fingerprint reader beside the touchpad, like its predecessor.

Display

Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 8 (2020) comes featuring five (5) display options just like the last year model. However, the is a brand new display option which is the highest deal for the 8th Gen laptop.

The PrivacyGuard which is a security technology which helps limit the display’s viewing angles, making it more difficult for others to peak at your screen.

This feature coupled with 500 nits brightness results into a crispy, crystal clear display.

The remaining two display options with the 1920 x 1080 resolution are low power panel with 400 nits brightness. One of the the display however, comes with a touchscreen panel. Unfortunately, this low power laptop are notorious for draining batteries.

For the premium option, the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 8 2020 model offers a 4K UHD screen which is notably brighter, sharper and more vibrant than the FHD option, hence, it delivers a visual feast that’s detailed, bright and incredibly vibrant.

Similarly, the 14-inches 4K UHD display with IPS panel packs display features which includes Dolby Vision, HDR400, and brightness up to 500 nits.

Furthermore, Lenovo offers a mid-range display option with WQHD IPS panel backed by a 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution and offers 300 nits brightness for better viewing experience.

Although the 4K UHD screen offers display benefits more than the WQHD and FHD panel, all the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 8 (2020) model viewing angles are solid with 16:9 screen aspect ratio, thus resulting into a bigger view of picture.

Processor and Storage

The Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 8 (2020) is built on Intel Comet Lake Core processors. This Intel 10th gen processors comes with options for up to the six-core Intel Core i7-10810U processor.

Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen 8 are the first Intel Athena Certified laptops by Lenovo, hence, it improves battery life, boot time, or wake up time.
